The Drug Treatment Centre Board Tackles Adolescent Addiction

A conference for Mental Health Professionals, 16-17th November 2006, Dublin
At the launch of the brochure for the Conference on the Treatment of Adolescent Addiction Ms Sheila Heffernan and Dr Bobby Smyth review the conference brochure.
Chronic misuse of drugs and alcohol by adolescents and the need for psychiatrists to be better equipped to deal with such cases has been the rationale behind the development of a 2 Day Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Conference by The Drug Treatment Centre Board. The conference will take place in Dublin on 16th and 17th November 2006.
Dr. Gerry McCarney, Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist, “When one considers the welfare of the child in our modern day society, it is necessary to view the child as a member of a family and a community system. The worrying and increasingly significant impact of drug and alcohol abuse on both the individuals developmental process and the individuals social mileau has resulted in a greater need for education regarding substance abuse.”
Elaborating on the aims of the conference Dr. Bobby Smyth said “This conference intends to highlight some current approaches to engagement and treatment in this area and to stimulate further discussion and strategy development for mental health professionals who work with young people.”
The Drug Treatment Centre Board will run this two day conference at the Davenport Hotel, Dublin on Thursday 16th and Friday 17th November 2006. Attendance is €295.00 per person and includes two days attendance, delegate pack, refreshments and lunch and workshops.
